Welcome!
The San Diego Technology & Aging Coalition is a consortium of professionals and older adults who are passionate about helping seniors learn about and benefit from technology. The Coalition grew out of the County of San Diego's Aging Summit, a biennial event which brings together older adults and senior service providers for a day of learning and discussion of critical issues. Aging Summit 2010 focused on technology and its importance in the lives of older adults.
The Need:
The pace of technological change in today's world is so rapid that even the savviest technophiles struggle to keep up. As our society becomes increasingly wired and connected, seniors are at risk of being left behind. But for those who are novices, the wide array of products and features can be overwhelming. Although some seniors have embraced new technology, many others are reluctant to explore how their lives could be made easier, or more fun, by learning to use computers, cell phones, or any number of other gadgets. This is unfortunate since the potential benefits are substantial. Whether one seeks to monitor their health, stay connected to family and friends, or live independently at home, gadgets abound to make these goals possible.
- Promote awareness of new technology
- Increase education and access
- Help the unconnected
- Advocate for quality products and services for seniors
